One Step Ahead (Fall Prevention) offered by King County Emergency Medical Services
Provides free home assessments and make recommendations to help older adults who are at high risk for falls. Must have called 911 as a result of falling or have been evaluated by a health care professional as being at high risk of falling.

A home assessment, provided in person or virtually, may take anywhere from 1. 5 - 2. 5 hours per client.
Falls are a major cause of injury and injury related deaths among older adults. Two of the strongest risk factors for falls are older age and prior history of falls.
About one out of ten falls among older adults result in a serious injury, such as a hip fracture or head injury that requires hospitalization. In addition to the physical and emotional pain, many people need to spend at least a year recovering in a long-term care facility before returning home. Some are unable to return to their homes.
King County EMS in conjunction with local Fire Departments, have collaborated to identify and intervene with those at highest risk in the community.

Operates a Fitness Center and provides fitness programs and classes. Fitness Center provides cardiovascular and strength-training equipment specifically for older adults. A physical fitness trainer is available to work with participants. Assists with identifying and navigating complex social service systems, housing, transportation, preparing for employment, identifying accommodations, personal assistance management, applying for social security, benefits planning, emergency preparedness, and advocacy.

- Advocacy: works alongside individuals with disabilities to plan and carry out strategic approaches to influence positive change in the community. Represents and advocates for the rights and needs of individuals with disabilities in order to advance the empowerment, inclusion, and wellness of all persons with disabilities.
- Emergency Preparedness: Provides emergency preparedness for disabled individuals by creating a plans in case of a disaster. Helps with fire drills, emergency planning, connection with local EMS, and building an emergency kit.
- Assists individuals or veterans who are needing to find caregiver and helps with making sure their caregiver gets paid. Must be referred by the VA, if they are a veteran; if they are a civilian, then they'll get help finding a state-funded caregiver.
- Has a Covid -19 Advocate that works with individuals with disabilities to help them get a schedule for vaccines, as well as a covid-19 peer support group.
- Assists with Power Action Systems (PAS program), which helps individuals with disabilities be able to get modifications to their household to make it more disability accessible.

Enhance Wellness
Connects participants with a personal health and wellness coach to improve physical, emotional and social well-being. After completing a health assessment, participants develop a personalized Health Action Plan. The participant's physician is kept informed of progress throughout the program. Located at numerous sites in King County. Coaching lasts about six months.

Group exercise program designed to improve older adults' physical conditioning level and decreases risk of falling. Each class includes strength training, cardiovascular conditioning and balance and stretching exercises. Located at numerous sites in King County.
Community Services offered by Shoreline Regional Fire Authority
Offers classes for AHA HeartSaver CPR, First Aid, disaster preparedness and fall prevention for older adults, as well as fire prevention classes and information. Some CPR courses offer certification for employment.
Offers American Heart Association adult, infant and child CPR. AHA HeartSaver courses are held throughout the year. Students receive a two-year AHA CPR card.
HeartSaver courses are designed for anyone with little or no medical training who needs a course completion card for job, regulatory (for example, OSHA), or other requirements.
These courses can also be taken by anyone who wants to be prepared for an emergency in any setting.
For many HeartSaver courses, students receive a course completion card that is valid for 2 years.
Also offers fall prevention for older adults, as well as fire prevention classes and information at Shoreline Senior Center.
The Children's Fire Safety Center hosts groups of 15 or fewer for one-hour educational and play sessions targeted at 3-5 year-olds.
Programs focus on promoting fire and life safety for families.
Outreach programs are offered to Scouts, playgroups, teachers, church groups or neighborhood associations.
