Center for Forensic Services offered at DSHS - Division of Behavioral Health & Recovery - Western State Hospital
Inpatient involuntary psychiatric program for those that are mentally ill and have committed offenses; clients enter for observation or with a criminally insane commitment. MENTAL HEALTH EVALUATIONS SATISFY COURT REQUEST.
Individuals, ages 18 and older, charged with a misdemeanor or felony may enter for observation with a 15-day court commitment to determine competency to stand trial and return to court.
This period can extend to total up to one year.
A patient may also have a criminally insane commitment where the court rules that they are not guilty by reason of insanity and commits him or her for treatment until the patient is safe to be at large.
The Center also provides services to certain individuals under the mental health laws that require the security of a legal unit.
