Center for Forensic Services offered at DSHS - Division of Behavioral Health & Recovery - Western State Hospital

Individuals, ages 18 and older, charged with a misdemeanor or felony may enter for observation with a 15-day court commitment to determine competency to stand trial and return to court.   This period can extend to total up to one year. A patient may also have a criminally insane commitment where the court rules that they are not guilty by reason of insanity and commits him or her for treatment until the patient is safe to be at large.   The Center also provides services to certain individuals under the mental health laws that require the security of a legal unit.

Application process

Must be court committed.

Eligibility

Individuals, ages 18 and older, charged with a felony or misdemeanor who are committed for a pre-trial competency evaluation or competency restoration.   Those ruled to be not guilty by reason of insanity and committed for treatment until safe to be at large are eligible.

Fee

Call for more information.    The Office of Financial Recovery (OFR) will bill Medicare, WA Apple Health (Medicaid) and private insurance.
