Responsible for providing juvenile detention, probation, and court services. All criminal cases involving children who are at least eight and not yet 18 years of age are referred to the Juvenile Center to be screened and scheduled for court hearings or diversion. 

Youth may be brought to detention by law enforcement when arrested for a crime or on a warrant. Each juvenile offender is assigned a probation counselor who works with the youth and their family to make sure that court orders are followed and to provide treatment and other services designed to reduce recidivism. 

Juvenile Center staff assist parents and school officials with truancy and at-risk youth petitions.

Juvenile Probation Services offered at Chelan County Juvenile Center

Responsible for providing juvenile detention, probation, and court services.

Programs that work with children and adolescents of compulsory school age who are habitually absent from class without permission to encourage them to improve their attendance and complete their education.

Truancy Counseling

State courts that have jurisdiction over minors who have been neglected or physically or sexually abused by the adults responsible for their care; who are in need of proper and effective parental care and control and have no parent or guardian capable of or willing to exercise such parental care and control; or who are physically dangerous to society due to mental or physical deficiencies, disorders or abnormalities. Dependency courts determine whether a particular child requires the protection of the court and select the most appropriate facility for placement including return to his or her own family.

Dependency Courts

Facilities that provide for the detention of minors who have been arrested for violating a federal or state law or a municipal or local ordinance pending a court hearing or release; and/or which provide for the confinement, treatment, employment, training and discipline of juveniles convicted of a criminal offense and sentenced by Youth or Juvenile Court to serve a period of time in a juvenile detention facility which may include juvenile hall, juvenile probation camp or a state reformatory site.

Juvenile Detention Facilities

State courts that are responsible for hearing cases which involve minors who have been charged with a criminal offense or who habitually refuse to obey reasonable and proper directions of their parents, guardians or custodians or school authorities, or who are habitually truant.

Juvenile Justice Courts

Programs that hold adult and juvenile offenders accountable for their crimes by having them spend a specified number of hours serving the community or crime victims through uncompensated work in lieu of a fine, restitution or jail. Community work service (CSW) may also be ordered as a condition of probation by the court as a sanction, or it may be stipulated as a condition of diversion. Offenders can work alone and provide service for churches, hospitals, nursing homes, cities, townships, schools, county departments and other public and nonprofit organizations; or can participate in a closely supervised work crew on projects such as picking up litter on highways or in parks. CSW is usually arranged and monitored through a corrections agency, but work assignments and supervision at the work site are normally the responsibility of a community organization such as a local volunteer center or a public agency.

Community Service Work Programs

Programs that provide for the formal supervision of individuals who have been convicted of a crime, usually a lesser offense, and given a suspended sentence which releases them into the community under specific conditions which may include a reduced term in a correctional facility, fines, restitution to the victim, community work, counseling, "good conduct" and other stipulations.

Probation

This is the office that provides probation, detention, diagnostic evaluation, diversion, guardian ad litems, outpatient drug and alcohol treatments, prevention services for at-risk youth and truancy services for youth and families who have been ordered into services by the court.

Provides probation, detention, diagnostic evaluation, diversion, guardian ad litems, outpatient drug and alcohol treatments, prevention services for at-risk youth and truancy services for youth and families.

Programs that provide mandated educational, treatment and/or other services for individuals who have been convicted of driving under the influence of alcohol or other drugs including prescription drugs and ordered by the court to seek assistance as part of state efforts to enforce DUI laws. Some DUI offender programs also include families.

DUI Offender Programs

Community-based programs that provide comprehensive social services for individuals younger than age 18 who have committed a minor offense and are directed to participate in a diversion program as an alternative to arrest, prosecution or, in some cases, sentencing for the offense. Most juvenile diversion programs do an assessment of the individual's needs and provide and/or coordinate the delivery of the necessary services which may include individual, group or family counseling, substance abuse counseling, supervised recreational activities, vocational guidance, tutorial services and supplemental referrals for other needs.

Juvenile Diversion

Programs that offer a variety of activities for youth who are at risk for behavior which is likely to involve them in the juvenile justice system with the objective of assisting them to improve self-esteem, to become aware of alternative ways of dealing with feelings and leisure time, and to take responsibility for the consequences of their actions. Included may be counseling, rap and discussion groups, tutoring, companionship programs, alternative peer group experiences and supervised recreational activities.
