Juvenile Probation Services offered at Chelan County Juvenile Center
Responsible for providing juvenile detention, probation, and court services. All criminal cases involving children who are at least eight and not yet 18 years of age are referred to the Juvenile Center to be screened and scheduled for court hearings or diversion. Youth may be brought to detention by law enforcement when arrested for a crime or on a warrant. Each juvenile offender is assigned a probation counselor who works with the youth and their family to make sure that court orders are followed and to provide treatment and other services designed to reduce recidivism. Juvenile Center staff assist parents and school officials with truancy and at-risk youth petitions. Eligibility
The At-Risk Youth Petition is defined by statute as a child under the age of 18 who meets at least one of the following three requirements: 1. Is absent from home for at least 72 consecutive hours without parental consent. 2. Is beyond parental control, such that his/her behavior endangers the health, safety, or welfare of the child or any other person. 3. Has a substance abuse problem for which there are no pending criminal charges relating to the substance abuse. Only the parent of the child may file the ARY petition. "Parent" is defined as the person(s) having legal right to custody of the child and includes custodian or guardian. Call for more information about At-Risk Youth or any other programs.
