Addresses code violations of public health and safety issues, including, but not limited to, rubbish, garbage, attractive nuisances, vegetation, zoning, dangerous buildings, housing and inoperable vehicles on private property.
Responsible for addressing codes that violate public health and safety issues, including, but not limited to:
- Junk Vehicles or Vehicle Parts
- Overgrown Vegetation
- Household Items
- Nuisances
- Home Occupation
- Residential Parking
- Canopy Tent Structures
- Fences
Code Compliance actions are taken by priority, both proactively and reactively in response to Requests for Action received from citizens. If an ordinance or regulation is being violated, the Code Compliance Officer will contact the homeowner or tenant in person to discuss the violation. The Officer requests the violation(s) be corrected within a certain time frame. The amount of time depends on the seriousness of the violation. If the violation(s) are not corrected, the Code Compliance Officer will again make contact with the homeowner or tenant indicating that the violation(s) are to be corrected within certain time frame. If the property remains in violation the Code Compliance Officer will issue a Notice of Violation and Order to Abate or a Citation. Fines will be assessed if not corrected and the file turned over to the City Attorney's department for further action. If the violation(s) are not corrected, the City may abate the property by removing the violation(s), bill the cost to the property owner and seek recovery of the costs.

- Building/construction without a valid permit
- Tree removal that exceeds permissible limits and without a valid permit
- Clearing/construction within designated sensitive areas such as wetlands and native growth protection area

- Sign code violations
- Nuisance complaints such as outdoor storage of junk and noise.

- Zoning: Illegal zoning uses; illegal home occupations; setback violations; construction or grading activities in a critical area without permits; sign code violations and shoreline violations
- Nuisance: Junk vehicles; garbage; trash; discarded and broken items on private property; vegetation hazards; lack of maintenance and disrepair of residential properties; violations of the construction work hour and disturbance or nuisance noise violations
- Building: Construction on new or existing buildings or structures without a building permit; dangerous buildings; housing violations; and grading activities without a permit
