Seniors aged 55 and older, who are active and still driving, are matched with older seniors who no longer drive and need assistance with doctor's visits, shopping, and/or simply companionship. It is not home health nor housekeeping. The program enables older seniors living alone to stay in their homes longer, reduces loneliness, and fosters long-lasting friendships. Provides volunteers for services such as yard care, transportation, shopping, minor home repair, and other errands. May be able to assist in installing, but not purchasing, handicapped devices and ramps.
Assists low-income elders and adults with disabilities who do not qualify for similar service programs, and who do not have family and friends to help them. Clients must be living independently in the home and in need of basic home and personal maintenance so they can continue living safely in their homes. Services are subject to availability of volunteers. Assistance that may be available from volunteer workers may include services such as: - Yard care may include mowing lawn, raking leaves, or removing snow from walkways - Light housework and laundry - Transportation to doctors appointments, grocery stores, food banks, and other essential errands - Minor home repairs including minor electrical work, minor plumbing (leaking fixtures). No services related to roofs due to liability issues. - Errand running and shopping - Installing handicapped devices including ramps and grab bars. Cannot help with the purchase of constructions materials or devices. *This service cannot help with more extensive needs such as: replacing roofs, installing windows, painting, replacement or patching of walls or flooring, cleaning gutters, relocation, moving, or removal of garbage.

Rides must originate in Thurston or Lewis County, depending on where the rider lives. Rides depend on volunteer availability.
Does not qualify for services if:
- Going to/from a Medicaid appointment (Medicaid Beneficiaries may receive services to appts not covered by Medicaid - Chiropractor, Eyeglass, pet care, etc; or possibly if Medicaid rides have been denied or are not covered)
- Using a wheelchair (unless they fold and can be placed in the trunk and client can transfer themselves)
- Living in a Group Home
- Living in a Assisted Living Facility
- Living in a Care Facility
- Receiving COPES
- Has a paid Caregiver
- Client can use Transit, has own car, or lives with family member who has car.
**Exception: Volunteer Services can fill in if family has one care and family member works full time which doesn't allow for client to receive rides**
**Examples of Exceptions: client has temporary disability and cannot drive, or if client is at risk due to COVID, they can be considered “disabled” and not forced to take transit**

COVID-19 Vaccine: Volunteer Services provides rides to receive a Covid-19 Vaccine. Client must be going to an appointment at a vaccination site or a drive thru site. Volunteers drivers are able to wait in long lines or drive thru vaccination sites with the client. Volunteer Services will need the data and time of the appointment, the location, and if it is a drive thru or an appointment at a facility.
Medical Appointment: Volunteer Services provides rides to medical appointments, including Dental, Chiropractic, Physical Therapy, Eyeglass, etc. Any appointment that is not Medicaid covered. *Possible exceptions to Medicaid Appointments: Client denied Paratransit/not receiving any other transportation. Will need explanation notated.
Dialysis: Volunteer Services can serve as a supplemental transportation option for trips to and from dialysis. These trips will need prior notice to ensure driver availability.
Medical Appointments involving Sedation: Volunteer Services can provide a ride to a client who has been under sedation and is accompanied by an attendant. The attendant must take on the liability for the client and be the one to accompany the client to the appointment. Drivers are not allowed to attend an appointment or procedure with a client.
Picking up Prescriptions: Volunteer will take clients to pharmacies.
Grocery Shopping and Food Banks: Volunteers will take clients to grocery stores and food banks. Volunteers may provide contactless grocery shopping/food bank pick up if requested, but not guaranteed. Dependent upon driver availability. (Notate if clients are currently signed up and actively going to a particular food bank).
Pet Care Appointment: Animal in a carrier the whole time unless it’s a service animal.

Medical Appointments for Dialysis: Volunteer Services can serve as a supplemental transportation option for trips to and from dialysis. These trips will need prior notice to ensure driver availability.
***Everyone who qualifies for Volunteer Services is encouraged to apply in any case. Volunteer Services will be able to determine what they can do after receiving the intake from 211 and having a discussion with the client.
Connector Routes offered at Pierce County Human Services Beyond the Borders
Provides two fixed routes in the Beyond the Borders Service area. See details for more information. Call 2-1-1 to be screened.
Provides two deviated fixed routes in the Beyond the Borders Service area.
Deviations up to 1 mile off the fixed route may be available, depending on the rider's situation.
Dispatch will make the determination if a deviation from the route is possible.
Routes run from Spanaway to South Hill and a Sumner to Bonney Lake Connector Monday through Friday.
Connections to Sound Transit and Pierce Transit bus service at each end of the routes.
Those who are disabled are also encouraged to apply for Pierce Transit's SHUTTLE for the Disabled.
Volunteer Services offered at Catholic Community Services - Clallam
Provides assistance to low-income seniors and disabled adults to help with transportation, minor home repairs, ramp construction, installing grab bars, yard care, and errand running..
VS provides assistance to those who cannot afford to pay for the kinds of services we provide, do not qualify for assistance elsewhere, or do not have family and friends to help them. This program of CCS uses volunteers to provide a variety of services to low income seniors or disabled people over 18. Our volunteers provide services such as yard care, transportation, shopping, minor home repair, errands and more. This agency may be able to assist in installing handicapped devices including ramps and grab bars. Clients must be living independently in their homes. Services are subject to availability of volunteers. Cannot assist those living in assisted living facilities. Transportation is primarily for medical appointments, shopping and errands. Out of area transportation such as Seattle, Bremerton, Bainbridge Island, Port Townsend is possible, but is based on the availability of a volunteer.

Provides transportation within the City of Everett to seniors, age 65 and over, and disabled persons who qualify under the ADA.

Senior Companion Program: serves one-on one with the frail elderly and other homebound persons who have difficulty completing everyday tasks. Provides companionship as they assist with grocery shopping, transportation to medical appointments, and other tasks. Volunteers are individuals over 55 years of age with a limited income, they receive a small stipend for an average of 15-20 hours of service per week.
Respite Adult Day Center in Yakima: gives frail or cognitively disabled adults the opportunity to make new friends and participate in a host of enjoyable activities in a safe and comfortable environment. A team of staff and volunteers are present to provide personalized support, encouragement and assistance to each participant. Provides some down-time to those who provide care to disabled individuals. The disabled individuals must have a memory loss situation (such as Alzheimer's, stroke, MS etc.) for the caregiver to be eligible for this program. This program works in conjunction with Aging and Long Term Care but is overseen by Catholic Charities Serving Central Washington.
Provides transportation coupled with assistance and companionship to ambulatory riders that cannot, should not, or do not want to drive themselves. Offers "Driver Companions" who help their elderly or ill client with their transportation needs as a family member might.

Snoqualmie Valley Transportation offered by Mt Si Senior Center
Provides transportation to and from the senior center and for health and shopping needs of seniors; volunteer transportation is also available. Also provides Valley Shuttle for Snoqualmie Valley residents ages 13 and older.
Provides transportation by the center's shuttle to and from the center and for health and shopping trips for seniors. Services are available to the general public. Reservations are required for door-to-door service.
BFT Connect & General Demand Transportation offered by Ben Franklin Transit
Provides on-demand ride services in six service zones across Benton and Franklin Counties.
BFT Connect provides on-demand ride services in six service zones throughout the Tri-Cities. This is not door-to-door transportation; it is a first and last mile service, which connects riders to major bus stops and transit centers. Depending on your location, pick- up locations may be at the nearest intersection. Rides must start and end in the same zone (please see link for clarification and zone maps). This is a shared ride service, so you may ride with additional people along your route, each traveling to different places.
The six BFT Connect zones are the following:
- West Pasco
- East Pasco
- West Richland & Badger Mountain
- Central Kennewick & Finley
- Columbia Center & South Richland
- Central Richland
Also provides General Demand Service, which consists of pick-up/drop-off transportation at designated stops, within Prosser and Benton City only. Connects riders to the bus line and requires at least one day's notice to reserve a ride.
Demand Response Rides offered at Pierce County Human Services Beyond the Borders
Provides demand rides from the home to the destination or the nearest Pierce Transit bus stop. Click on program name for details. Call 2-1-1 to be screened.
Demand response rides are for trips that cannot be completed on one of the two Connector deviated fixed routes in Sumner/Bonney Lake or Spanaway/South Hill.
Trip purpose: work, dialysis or lifeline/essential trips the destination or the nearest Pierce Transit or Sound Transit bus stop.
*The only dialysis center inside the Beyond the Borders service area is the Graham Dialysis Center.
Request to other dialysis centers, such as DaVita South Hill Dialysis Center, Fresenius South Hill Dialysis Center, and DaVita Parkland Dialysis Center may qualify for boundary overlap for SHUTTLE qualified riders on a case by case basis.
Trips for dialysis are NOT immediate. There is currently a wait list for dialysis rides.*
Lifeline/Essential trips are limited to 6 round trips per month.
Services could include but are not limited to:
- food banks,
- clothing banks,
- family support centers,
- social service appointments (WIC, DSHS, PCCC),
- court or legal appointments,
- school counselor appointments, and
- shelters.
*If the caller was denied services from Paratransit, BTB may take the request under consideration.
Service to Eatonville will be limited to Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.
In partnership with Pierce Transit, Beyond the Borders will share some boundary overlap with SHUTTLE services.
This means that someone who qualifies for SHUTTLE and their ride originates in Beyond the Borders service area and ends in SHUTTLE service area then they are eligible for door-to-door services on Beyond the Borders vehicles.
With Beyond the Border Boundary Overlap the rider stays on the BTB bus and is taken to their final destination.
Riders who are outside the SHUTTLE area think they do not qualify for SHUTTLE but THEY can be qualified, they just cannot be picked up at their home address.
Boundary Overlap is for people with SHUTTLE eligibility who live in the BTB service area and are traveling no more than 5-7 miles into the SHUTTLE service area.
Those who are disabled are also encouraged to apply for Pierce Transit's SHUTTLE for the Disabled.
