Disaster Preparedness and Response offered by City of Seattle's Office of Emergency Management
Develops plans, prepares for and responds to major disasters in the city of Seattle. Provides education and funding to mitigate disaster.
Develops disaster plans. Prepares for, mitigates against and responds to any major disasters in Seattle such as:
- Fires
- Floods
- Snow Storms
- Earthquakes
- Acts of terrorism
Trains city staff and runs emergency exercises.
Manages community outreach programs designed to make the community more resistant to the damaging effects of disasters.
Reports directly to police chief and is guided by the mayor's advisory body, the Disaster Management Committee. This Committee crafts the city of Seattle's emergency work plan and evaluates progress.
Acts as a liaison between the city of Seattle and state and federal emergency management counterparts.
