Provides planning in a wide range of community development services in unincorporated Yakima County.
Provides a wide range of community development services in unincorporated Yakima County related to subdivision, zoning, environmental, long-range comprehensive planning, special projects, intergovernmental coordination, grants, and public involvement.
Responsible for administering multiple sections of the Yakima County Code (YCC) and for preparing or coordinating amendments or drafting new codes in order to meet the County's land development responsibilities under State law.
The Planning Division is the County's lead agency for conducting environmental review (SEPA) and for ensuring compliance with Growth Management Act requirements.
Also provides technical support to the Hearing Examiner, Board of Commissioners, task groups and other agencies.
The Planning Division is organized into four sections:
1. Environmental and Natural Resources Section: Develops, updates, and maintains Critical Areas, Shoreline, and SEPA regulations, processed critical areas and shoreline permits, conducts SEPA reviews.
2. Subdivision and Zoning Section: Develops, updates, and maintains subdivision and zoning codes, and processes subdivision and zoning applications.
3. Long Range Planning Section: Develops, updates, and maintains Yakima County Comprehensive Plan, coordinates citizen participation, develops neighborhood plans, conducts special studies, prepares Community Development Block Grants, processes comprehensive plan amendments.
4. Development Services Coordination Section: Provides department-wide coordination of major land use development projects.
