ADWAS advocates listen, provide information and referrals, do domestic violence and sexual assault education, brainstorm with callers different ways to keep safe, and do formal safety planning and crisis intervention. Advocates respond to Deaf survivors through a cultural and trauma informed lens. Advocates can also work with Deaf or hearing friends/family members of Deaf survivors. Advocates provide support, education and technical assistance for hearing domestic violence and sexual assault programs and shelters to improve their accessibility for Deaf survivors who need their services.
