Consular Information Program offered at United States Department of State
The Office of American Citizens Services and Crisis Management (ACS) informs the public of conditions abroad that may affect their safety. The office's website contains country-specific information, travel alerts, and travel warnings.
Administers the Consular Information Program, which informs the public of conditions abroad that may affect their safety. The office's website contains country-specific information, travel alerts, and travel warnings.
The office also provides a hotline for people both in the US and abroad to call if they have family abroad and a disaster has occurred. Individuals who have questions related to the death or arrest/detention of a US citizen abroad may call the hotline. Those seeking information on international crises and travel advisories and warnings may also call for assistance.
Country Specific Information is provided for every country in the world through an interactive map feature on the office's website. Topics include US embassy and consular office locations, information about whether a visa is needed to enter the country, information about crime and security, and health and medical considerations.
The Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) is a travel registration service for US citizens and nationals who are traveling to, or living in, another country. Once enrolled, participants can receive information about safety conditions in the destination country, help the nearest embassy contact the traveler in an emergency (natural disaster, civil unrest, or family emergency), and help family and friends contact the traveler in case of emergency.
