Offers unique programming to Teens, including Advisory Teen Council, service learning opportunities and field trips.
Summer Day Camps offered by Kent Parks, Recreation & Community Services
Offers summer day camps for children with various disabilities entering grades K-6 and 5-7.
Kent Parks offers an inclusive day camp for children with disabilities as part of our Camp WALKAPALA day camp program. WALKAPALA Too is led by Adaptive Recreation Program Coordinator Lara Castillo and space is extremely limited; campers must be entering grades 4-6 in Fall 2025 (currently in grades 3-5).
WALKAPALA Too offers a safe, memorable, and entertaining experience full of friends and fun. Each day is filled with a variety of sports, games, arts and crafts, songs, and activities to keep campers active and engaged all summer long. Fees include all camp activities, field trip admission fees, afternoon snack, and one camp t-shirt per child for the summer. Kent School District offers a free lunch daily or you may send a sack lunch with your child. All field trips are subject to change. The first week of camp is also subject to change, based on the last day of school for Kent School District.
After School Program offered by Kent Youth and Family Services at Valli Kee Youth Center
Provides activities, trips, homework assistance and educational programs for youth ages 6-18 at Valli Kee, Cascade and Birch Creek public housing sites.
The After School Program provides year-round enriching activities designed to support youth in their academic, social-emotional, and life skills development. Offers a safe, supportive, and engaging environment where students can thrive academically through personalized homework assistance, targeted literacy development, diverse enrichment activities, and access to technology.
Beyond academics, the program promotes social-emotional well-being and life skills through a variety of recreational indoor and outdoor activities, including amateur sports teams such as basketball, flag football, and soccer. These team-based sports provide opportunities for youth to build teamwork, leadership, and resilience while staying active and engaged. Additionally, field trips and enrichment groups further support personal growth and foster a sense of community and belonging.
During the summer, the Summer Splash program combats the "summer slide" by reinforcing literacy and math skills to help students maintain and improve their academic performance. Also partners with the Kent School District to provide free summer lunches for youth under 18 at all three program locations.
The program operates at three King County Housing Authority sites on the East Hill of Kent: Birch Creek Apartments, Valli Kee Homes, and Cascade Apartments. Each community recreation center features computer labs, activity rooms, teen spaces, and a variety of recreational and educational programming to create a well-rounded experience. Students also receive healthy snacks to stay energized and focused.
The program focuses on key life skills such as leadership, teamwork, and resilience, while fostering both soft and durable skills. With the guidance of positive adult role models, youth are empowered to overcome challenges, build confidence, and succeed academically and personally.
Provides a place where families can find respite from social, economic, and educational challenges, and learn how to overcome them.
We have a fundamental desire to provide opportunities for every family to build stronger bonds, achieve greater work/life balance, and become more engaged with their communities. Family Nights, Family Swim, and Family Sports are just a few of the programs offered that are specifically for families to enjoy together. Not all programs are offered by all branches.

Summer sessions are designed to combine fun and adventure with age-appropriate, counselor-based programs which incorporate new skills, outdoor education, learning, and group activities.
Camp is a safe, exciting experience in which young people explore the outdoors, build self-esteem, develop interpersonal skills, and make lasting friendships and memories. We offer a variety of programs to meet the different needs and interests of your kids and family. Campers are active all day long, and have a blast while developing the YMCA character values of caring, honestly, respect, and responsibility.

Organizes outdoor activities and water sports in the summer for people with all types of disabilities. Limited transportation is available for a fee. Call to sign up.

Includes camping, biking, adaptive cycling, hiking, rock climbing and kayaking for children and adults with all types of disabilities. Pre-registration is required. After School Youth Enrichment Program offered by America SCORES Seattle at Maple Elementary
Offers an after-school program that integrates soccer, poetry and service-learning through community service projects. Referral required from a teacher or school administrator.

Students play soccer and learn lessons about teamwork, sportsmanship and leadership while taking part in physical exercise.
During the fall, participants work on reading and writing skills through poetry, which is also performed to build self-confidence.
In the spring, students work with teammates to design and implement a community service project in their neighborhood.
Program takes place at nine elementary schools in South Seattle.
Each session is 90 minutes.

Programs include aerobics classes, sports activities, self-improvement courses, dance, and CPR/First Aid classes. CPR/First Aid classes are presented by Red Cross and meet OSHA/workplace certification requirements.

The Recreation Specialist encourages visits with family and interested participants prior to registration.
