Using a person-centered approach, participants learn about employment opportunities within the community and are then able to make informed choices about their employment future.   These services are designed to assist individuals in choosing employment outcomes and career development options that are based on his or her preferences, strengths, abilities and needs. Our services offer a variety of activities including job tryouts, job tours, job shadowing, labor market analysis, community-based assessments, and possibilities for volunteering in the community.  Morningside's evaluation and employment planning services are a way to help you define what type of job you want and whether that job is right for you. Services in this area help identify your interests, abilities and needs that will be important to you as you set your goals. We will also provide you with the opportunity to explore work options by trying one or more jobs that might interest you.  Working with you and your vocational counselor, we will develop a plan and you decide how many jobs you want to try. Most participants try one to three jobs. Job tryouts usually last two to four weeks.

Provides information about the Registered Apprenticeship system. Registered Apprenticeship programs are a written plan designed to move an apprentice from a low or no skill entry-level position to full occupational proficiency. A Registered Apprenticeship program is sponsored by an individual business or an employer association and may be partnered with a labor organization through a collective bargaining agreement. Apprentices start working from day one with incremental wage increases as they become more proficient on the job. Apprenticeships range from one to six years, but the majority are four years in length.   Upon finishing the training program, an apprentice earns a "Completion of Registered Apprenticeship" certificate, an industry issued, nationally recognized credential that validates proficiency in an apprenticeable occupation.

Services provided: Vocational and academic education. A wide variety of open-entry courses are available; automotive and collision repair technology; construction trades; cosmetology; food service/culinary arts; fire science, criminal justice, esthetics, welding technology; 3D animation and gaming and more.

Provides information about apprenticeship programs in Washington. Registers incoming apprentices accepted into approved training programs. Apprenticeship programs combine classroom studies with on-the-job training supervised by a journey-level craft person or trade professional.    Apprentices get paid to learn, and wages increase as they meet required milestones.

Offers a recognized apprenticeship preparation program through the Washington State Apprenticeship and Training Council. Serves young adults of color age 18-26 who are interested in pursuing a career in the trades or other “under-emphasized” or “under-accessed” career paths. Combines career exploration and hands-on experience and is rooted in the belief that Scholars will achieve greater satisfaction in their careers, and life in general, if they choose the best-fit path for them. Believes that Scholars possess the inherent strengths and ability to succeed in their chosen path. Strives to eliminate barriers to construction trades exposure, access, and opportunity. Participants (Scholars) participate in six weeks of training (Phase One) focused on career exploration and preparation, wellbeing/soft skill development, safety training, workplace competencies, physical conditioning, construction math, and foundational trades skill knowledge. At the end of Phase One, Scholars choose their path: direct-to-employment, matriculation into a postsecondary institution, or participation in our intensive eight-week construction trades pre-apprenticeship. (Phase Two). Phase Two dives into hands-on construction competencies and skill development to pass apprenticeship entrance testing. Scholars participate in try-a-trade experiences, meet with apprenticeship representatives, and receive additional industry-recognized certifications (total of 8).

Provides a free 10 week training course for entry-level jobs in manufacturing. Students receive college credit and certificates in First Aid/CPR, OSHA and Forklift. Graduates who are placed with employer partners are eligible to apply for advanced training in an apprenticeship program. Participants will have access to support services, coaches and mentors who will assist with resumes, cover letters, interviewing and applications. Those with some experience and manufacturing background may enroll for direct to job search support and wraparound services without the training element.

Offers a four week pre-apprenticeship training in ironworking, with wages starting at $27. 15 per hour. Run by trade professionals, the program balances classroom studies and on-the-job training while students earn a living wage with healthcare, retirement, and other benefits. As students learn more skills and their abilities increase, their wages increase. Participants receive career navigation, tools and work gear, job placement assistance and support services such as help with transportation and obtaining work-appropriate clothing.

Offers a six month training for shipyard-specific welding and fitting, with wages starting at $20-25 per hour plus benefits. Classes are held Monday through Friday from 8 a. m. to 2 p. m. and sessions are held twice yearly. Aside from training, students will participate in industry tours and presentations. Through Classroom-In-A-Shipyard, students earn multiple welding & industry certifications; connect with employers dedicated to their career growth, including second-chance employers for re-entry candidates; and develop interview and resume-building skills. Participants receive career navigation, tools and work gear, job placement assistance and support services such as help with transportation and obtaining work-appropriate clothing.
