Works to make sure children's needs are met through education and nutrition. - Carroll Children's Center: provides full time early education for children ages 1 month through 5 years of age. Offers a structured learning environment with bilingual staff and help from volunteers. Does not provide childcare after 6:30pm or on the weekends. - Growing Hope Child & Family Development Center: expands services to low-income, high-risk children and infants through age 5, and their families. Includes 8 infant through preschool classrooms, including Early Childhood Education and Assistance Program (ECEAP), ECLIPSE therapeutic classrooms, and early learning classrooms. - Child Care Nutrition Program: seeks to assure all children in licensed child care homes receive adequate and nutritional balanced USDA eligible meals. Provides reimbursement for nutritious snacks and meals served in family day care homes for children 1 month through 12 years of age.

A program that encourages children to explore using all their senses through developmentally appropriate individual and group activities in a safe, nurturing and fun environment.

Supports families in helping their young children reach certain educational milestones ahead of preschool. Through our partnership with ParentChild+, we pair families and toddlers with Early Learning Specialists who visit twice a week for up to two years. These visits help children learn skills to help them prepare for school and give parents tactics they can use every day to be their own child’s teacher. Early Learning Specialists also bring participants free books and toys that the child can keep.

Offers an early learning center that opens during the day. Helps children in their early learning and prepared them for kindergarten. Children prepare for success in school while their mothers are in class. Parents are encouraged to implement the early learning activities from the ELC to their homes and community.

The Early Childhood Services at OlyCAP are focused on addressing the needs of families with children age five and younger.  Preschool, early childhood development, child care and family support services are offered at sites throughout Clallam and Jefferson counties.  Children enrolled receive a developmental screening, an individualized learning plan, at least two meals each day and an active learning experience on days they attend the center.  In addition to children services, each family enrolled receives support in accessing medical and dental care for their child, parenting education, home visits and help with finding needed services or resources in the community. Head Start/Early Head Start Head Start and Early Head Start programs promote school readiness by enhancing the social and cognitive development of children through the provision of educational, health, nutritional, social and other services to enrolled children and families.  The program strives to engage parents in their children’s leaning and help them in making progress toward their educational, literacy and employment goals.  Additionally, the Early Head Start program promotes healthy prenatal outcomes, promotes healthy family functioning, and strengthens the development of infants and toddlers. Parents or caregivers are encouraged to attend all the classes in the series. Parents learn new skills and helpful tips to nurture development in ways that foster academic skills and personal behaviors to boost children's motivation, perseverance and engagement in learning. Program facilitates interactions and active learning by using movement, play, exploration, communication and all of a child's senses - seeing, hearing, smelling, touching and tasting. One series targets households with 4 or 5 year olds, and the other is for households with 3 to 4 year olds. Transition to Kindergarten Offers an early start Kindergarten program for children who turn 5 after August 31st, and who have not had a formal preschool/Head Start experience. Program starts in January, and is a full-day, 20 week program.

Goal is to prepare students for kindergarten and beyond, using researched-based, age-appropriate curriculum that focuses on the domains of Early Learning essential to school readiness: - Social and Emotional Development - Language and Literacy - Perceptual, Motor, and Physical Development - Cognition. Preschool programs, including full-day and half-day programs, are offered at many locations across the Tacoma School District. Families with an annual household income below 500 percent of the Federal Poverty Level will receive priority consideration for enrollment into free programs. ChildFind: Offers free screening for vision, hearing, motor coordination, language, learning and behavior skills for preschool aged children with a suspected disability.

Through home visits, case managers increase parent knowledge of early childhood development, improves parenting practices and increase children’s school readiness and success. Provides early detection of developmental delays and health issues. Uses the Parents as Teachers and the Parent Child+ models. Provides a kindergarten readiness program that helps parents close the achievement gap and give students a boost in the classroom setting.

Extended hour childcare provided in local school districts.  Licensed centers include developmentally appropriate learning activities.  Literacy curriculum focuses on use and appreciation of oral language, printed language and listening comprehension.  Meals provided.
