Provides the following services: domestic violence restraining orders, anti harassment/stalking protection orders, no contact orders, sexual assault protection orders, name changes and civil weddings.
Provides the following services at the district courts: Protection orders and name change petitions can be obtained at the clerk's office Domestic Violence Protective Orders Issues orders that protects the petitioner from abuse or threats of abuse from a current or former spouse, boyfriend/girlfriend, someone they have a child with, someone they live with or someone they are related to through blood or marriage. Antiharassment/Stalking Protection Orders Issues orders that will protect the petitioner from another person whose behavior is abusive, threatening, exploitive or seriously alarming. The primary purpose is to order the "respondent" to not contact or harm the "petitioner. " No Contact Order Issues orders that protect victims of crime from contact with the person accused of committing the crime. Incident must have been reported to the police. Criminal charges must be pending. The court may issue a no contact order as part of bail hearing, arraignment or sentencing. Sexual Assault Protection Orders Issues orders that can require the person who committed a sexual assault to stay away from their victim, their home, school, work or other places they request, and to have no further contact with them Name Changes Clerk's office accepts name change petitions and orders for people who want to officially change their names. The case will then be presented to a judge for approval and signature. The court will record your name change with the King County Auditor. Recording takes 6 to 8 weeks to process. Weddings District Court judges can perform civil wedding ceremonies. Weddings can be performed before 8:30am, after 4:30pm, and on weekends and holidays. On the day of the ceremony bring a valid marriage license and two witnesses. Forms available online in Khmer, Chinese, Korean, Laotian, Russian, Spanish and Vietnamese.
