Weatherization Program offered by City of Seattle's Office of Housing

Conducts a free energy analysis of owner occupied or rental homes in Seattle and recommends a conservation package to assist with energy saving improvements.   The energy conservation package may include the following services:   -  Added insulation -  Venting -  Weatherstripping of exterior doors -  Furnace repair, tune-up or replacement -  Window caulking -  Installation or replacement of bath fans and kitchen fans   HomeWise selects and manages a private contractor to perform the work. Apartment building projects may also receive energy efficient lighting.

Application process

Call to receive an application, or visit website to download and print. Renters and landlords must call to request an application by mail. Landlords of up to four units must sign a three year covenant agreement to not raise rents. Landlords of multiple units (5 or more) must sign either a three or a ten year covenant agreement, and may have to pay percentage of improvement costs for some kinds of work.

Fee

None for single-family homeowners. Fees vary for apartment owners.

Eligibility

Owner-occupied, single family, and multi-family homes with any heat source within Seattle city limits.   Also serves electrically heated homes within the Seattle City Light service area.   May be used in conjunction with the loan program if client qualifies.
