Clean and Sober Housing offered by Oxford Houses in Washington State

Operates low-cost, clean and sober housing for those in recovery, providing separate houses for single men and for single women.  Also maintains limited housing for single adults with children. They are independent and peer-run with voluntary assistance.   Offers a supportive environment and opportunities to learn skills.  Individuals living in a house are expected to participate in a recovery program in the community during their residence.  Houses operate democratically, electing house officers who serve six-month terms.  Houses are financially self-supporting; members split house expenses.  Any resident who relapses will be immediately expelled.  Residents may live in an Oxford House for as long as they want, provided they follow house rules.

Application process

Visit website to find vacancies and apply online.  Locator can also limit searches to show only houses for men and women and houses that take children.  If an individual is interested in living in an Oxford House, they can apply directly to the house of their choice.  If there are vacancies, an interview will be scheduled. The interview with an applicant involves all members of the House.  Eighty percent of the members must vote to accept the applicant as a roommate.  Those who need additional help selecting a house can call one of the Oxford House outreach workers.

Members split house expenses, which average $275 to $650 per person per month.

Eligibility

It is suggested but not required that individuals have completed inpatient substance use disorder treatment, a 10 day detoxification program with intense outpatient treatment or have 30 days of being clean and sober.   Must also be willing to accept the house rules and expectations and be able to pay their equal share of household expenses.  Maintains some houses for single men and others for single women; No co-ed housing. Limited housing for single adults with children. May take clients with previous convictions; will not accept clients with previous convictions of arson or sex offenses. All houses accept those undergoing Medication Assisted Treatment. May accept women fleeing domestic violence if they meet all other eligibility requirements.
