Collegiate Homesharing Program - CHS offered at Associated Ministries
Collegiate Homesharing Program - CHS offered at Associated Ministries
Offers a program that carefully matches community members, who are willing to open their home to a currently enrolled college student needing a safe, affordable place to live and study. CHS Home Providers might be current or past faculty members, alumni, empty nesters, or community members who want to help a student reach their educational goals. For these people, homesharing offers them a chance to give back to the community, support a school they are involved with currently or in the past, lower household expenses, or receive companionship. Student Home Seekers may be young adults living away from home for the first time, students from out of the area or from another country, or adults going back to school with reduced incomes. For these students, homesharing provides them an affordable place to live and study while pursuing their degrees. A thoughtful and comprehensive process ensures that all parties are safe, compatible, and benefitting from a homesharing match. Home Providers and Home Seekers must complete an in-depth application, a background check, and have a one-on-one meeting with case management to determine needs and compatibility for potential homesharing match. At this point, our staff will look for possible matches for referral. If a referral is made, staff will facilitate with the Home Provider and Student during the interviewing period, negotiation of homesharing arrangements, and the drafting of a Homesharing Agreement form. During the match, staff is available to provide community resources for other supportive services and conflict resolution. The CHS program works with students from area colleges such as: University of Washington - Tacoma, Tacoma Community College, Bates Technical, Pierce College, Clover Park Vocational, University of Puget Sound, Pacific Lutheran University.
