Adolescent Behavioral Health at Tacoma General (ABH) specializes in treating adolescents who are experiencing major depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, thought of self-harm, psychosis, or other severe mental health disorders that result in major impairment in social or interpersonal functioning. 27 bed inpatient unit for voluntary, involuntary, and Parent-initiated treatment or adolescents ages 13-17. The goal of treatment is to promote patient and family in recovery and transition back to the community. Each teen's personalized treatment plan may include: - Comprehensive psychiatric evaluation - Psychosocial assessment and Discharge planning - Medication review and management - Multidisciplinary treatment interventions - Individual counseling - Individualized treatment plan - Cognitive behavioral therapy - Family Groups - Care Coordination - Creative arts therapy and recreation therapy. Treatment program is based on the recovery model and trauma informed care (TIC) valuing kindness, empowering teens to plan an active role in their recovery. A wide variety of activities for patients are available and parent/caregiver groups will also be available to provide support for families. Once teens are ready to leave the unit, their care team will work with the family and outpatient providers to have a safety plan in place. The team will also provide the parents/caregivers with tools and education on the treatment that happened during the teen's stay and how to continue to use the skills that they developed. Follow-up appointments with their outpatient providers are scheduled prior to discharge.

Eligibility

Adolescents 13-17 years old. Medical clearance must be obtained prior to admission to the unit. Insurance authorization must be obtained by the referring facility/provider (like the emergency room or family doctor). The same process applies to involuntary patients, but they must also include the court order, and Adolescent Behavioral Health at Tacoma General must be listed on the order. Conditions that will keep people in the hospital instead of the behavioral health unit: - Fevers greater than 101 - Head Trauma requiring neurological monitoring - Unstable vital signs - Conditions requiring suctioning - Continuous IV Therapy - Central Lines - Casts/Ace bandages.
