Tenant-Based Rental Assistance offered at Housing Opportunities of Southwest Washington

Tenant-Based Rental Assistance (TBRA) is a temporary, transitional program that provides rent assistance for no longer than 24 months. The purpose is to transition families from homelessness or near-homelessness to assisted housing with supportive services. Eligible households receive a voucher, which enables them to find suitable and appropriate housing. Once the unit is inspected and approved by Housing Opportunities of Southwest Washington, a Housing Assistance Payment (HAP) contract is initiated with the landlord. Monthly payments are sent to the landlord on behalf of the family based on household size, income, assets, type of unit, and utilities for which the household is responsible. Ongoing case management with supportive services is a condition of continued participation.
