Veterinary Financial Assistance offered by The Pet Fund

Provides financial assistance up to $500 to owners of domestic animals who need veterinary care. Assistance is for non-basic, non-urgent care, such as cancer treatment, heart disease, chronic conditions, endocrine diseases, eye diseases, etc. Program has a waiting list and cannot assist with emergencies. Contributions are paid directly to the treating veterinarian.

Application process

For pet owners: -  Applicants are required to contact The Pet Fund by email before applying for funding so that the applicant can be made aware of current wait list time and eligibility requirements. Applications sent in before speaking with a staff member by phone will not be processed.   - Application must be faxed For veterinarians: -  Veterinarians may request funding on behalf of a client.   -  Read through funding eligibility guidelines on the websites as staff will depend on the veterinarian's judgement in determining eligibility. -  Requesting veterinarian will need to have a phone conference with The Pet Fund staff and verify veterinary license information.

Eligibility

To receive assistance: -  Must have owned companion animal for at least six months -  Demonstrate financial need -  Animal must have a serious health condition with a prognosis of a 50% or better survival rate beyond six months as determined by a veterinarian -  Animal must be a domestic companion animal, which includes dogs, cats, rabbits, birds, potbellied pigs, guinea pigs, rats, etc.   -  Must be able to cover any costs associated with the needed treatment over The Pet Fund grant, including cases where lifetime treatment will be necessary -  Must have a source of income which can include unemployment benefits, SSI or SSDI, as well as income from employment.    Does not cover: -  Horses, including those that are companion animals -  Farm animals - Animals owned by breeders or used for research or commercial purposes of any kind - Emergencies or basic and routine care -  Bills already paid or procedures already in progress -  Conditions resulting from a failure to provide preventative or timely care
