Home Repairs offered at Tacoma/Pierce County Habitat for Humanity
Provides both Environmental Modifications and Critical Home Repairs, with a project budget cap of $15,000 per household. Homeowners partner on projects by helping with the work if/when physically able, and paying a portion of the repair costs (minimum investment is $100). Environmental Modifications Physical adaptations to a home necessary to ensure the health, welfare, and safety of the resident and allow them to function with greater independence. Environmental Modifications include, but are not limited to: - Access Ramps - Handrails and walkways - Door widening for wheelchair accessibility - Plumbing modifications to improve accessibility for bathing Critical Home Repairs Essential repairs necessary to ensure the structural integrity and/or ongoing livability of a home. Critical Home Repairs include, but are not limited to: - Roof, gutter repair/replacement - Repair of structural defects or damage - Repair or replacement of HVAC components or hot water heaters. Following are examples of work NOT covered under this program: - Painting (interior or exterior) - Cabinetry - Fences - Landscaping or yard work - work on unoccupied structures like garages or sheds - Cosmetic repairs not necessary for health or safety.

Eligibility
To be eligible for a critical home repair under the Aging in Place program, applicants must meet all of the following criteria: - Pierce County resident - Own and occupy the home - Age 60 and older OR a disabled Veteran of the US Military - Willingness to partner by helping with the work in some way if physically able (what Habitat call "sweat equity") and paying a portion of the repair costs (starting at $100) - Household Yearly Income below 80% Area Medium Income (around $65,000 for a 1 person household).
