Families In Transition offered at Coupeville Readiness To Learn Site

Provides assistance to families in temporary living situations due to financial hardship. The goal of this program is to keep children in school while their family is in transition.  Students may qualify for services including free school lunch, transportation to school, tutoring, referral to community resources and student advocacy.

Application process

Each school district has a "Homeless Liaison" whose duty it is to assist students in temporary living situations.  Contact the school district and ask for this person and they will assist you.

Eligibility

Eligible students include students living in the following situations:  1) Living on the streets, in cars, on campgrounds, in abandoned buildings, or in other forms of shelter not designed as a permanent home   2) Living in community shelter facilities  3) Living in transitional housing  4) Forced to “double up” due to their family’s lack of permanent housing  5) Temporarily living with someone other than their parent(s) or legal guardian(s)  6) Abandoned  7) Told to leave by their parent(s)  8) Runaways

Readiness To Learn promotes student academic success by facilitating the combined efforts of schools, families, and communities to address the needs of the whole child.  Programs are available through South Whidbey School District and Coupeville School District.
