Surface Water and Land Protection offered at King County Department of Natural Resources and Parks' Water and Land Resources Division

Promotes healthy watersheds and people, in part, by controlling the quantity and quality of surface water runoff in unincorporated King County. Agency designs plans, policies and programs to meet this goal. Specific services include maintenance of drainage facilities, the construction of capital improvement projects for flood control, habitat restoration and water quality. Also provides citizen involvement and public education promoting ongoing stewardship of water resources and operation of Flood Warning Center during river flood events. Responds to related questions, inquiries and complaints. Additional services address watershed protection and enhancement, open space and wildlife acquisition and preservation and hazardous waste.    King County's Lakes Monitoring Program website contains articles about water contamination and lists bacteria counts at swimming beaches. Lakes Monitoring Program serves all of King County with a focus on Lakes Sammamish, Union and Washington.
