Child Care Action Council
Child Care Action Council (CCAC) supports early learning communities throughout the Olympic Peninsula and the South Sound with three major programming components. The first component is serving as the designated agency to administer the Child Care Aware services in six counties including Clallam, Grays Harbor, Jefferson, Kitsap, Mason, and Thurston. Services focus on licensed child care providers to deliver high-quality care by supporting the continuous improvement efforts of early educators. In our area, we are unique in providing on-site consultation and coaching to licensed centers and family homes. We are also the primary provider of continuing professional development for the early learning workforce in our service area. The second component of CCAC’s work is to support parents, relatives, and other caregivers to ensure that all children obtain the skills needed to enter kindergarten and thrive through family services programs in Thurston, Mason, and Grays Harbor counties. These programs focus on early learning and educating parents on how to support the development of their child to keep them safe and learning. We target outreach to under-served populations including low-income, non-English speakers, and rural communities. CCAC has taken several evidence-based or promising practice models and implemented them in our service area to meet the specific needs of each community. These programs include: Safe Kids Thurston County (childhood safety), Raising A Reader (early literacy), Kaleidoscope Play & Learn Groups (caregiver support & early learning opportunities), Margie's Crisis Nursery (emergency child care), Parents as Teachers of Mason County (home visiting, parent support), and Block Fest math/science exhibit (early STEM). The third component is CCAC's operation of two Early Childhood Education and Assistance Program (ECEAP) centers in Lacey and Shelton. ECEAP is a free early learning program that supports a child's development and providers resources for families.
