Food Worker Card offered by Public Health in Seattle & King County's Environmental Health Services

Offers a short video class and test for the Food Handler's Permit (Card). The Food Worker Card is a permit to work with food being served to the public. Everyone who works in the food industry by preparing, cooking and/or serving food to the public must have a Food Worker Card. Class and test may be taken online and in one in-person location in King County. Permit is issued if applicant passes the test and is valid for two years if this is the first time the applicant has gotten a food worker card. Food worker cards obtained anywhere in Washington state are valid throughout the state.

Application process

Call for current information on test sites and times in King County or visit website. Instructions for online testing is also available on the website. Food Worker's Permit Study Guide is available in English, Chinese, Korean, Russian, Spanish and Vietnamese. Applicant may bring an interpreter. Arrive 30 minutes early to allow time to pay, register and get a seat.

Bring $10 in cash for food handler permit. For online testing pay $10 with credit card.
