VITA Tax Assistance offered at University of Washington Tacoma

Offers free, face-to-face tax help to people with low to moderate incomes. E-filing available. Also helping qualified households apply for the Washington State Working Families Tax Credit. Can not help with business taxes, rental income, sale of property or stocks. Helps prepare non-resident returns (those that have an ITIN instead of a Social Security Card). Volunteers are IRS certified.

This location is drop-in. Located on the corner of S. C Street and 21st Street. Parking is available. Handicap accessible. Easily accessed by Link or Bus

Fee

No cost.

Eligibility

Pierce County residents with moderate to low-incomes (incomes under $70,000). No returns that are married, filing separately. No business returns and self-employment with expenses more than $35,000 No hobby income. No rental income except for land-only and home for less than 15 days. No capital gains or losses from futures or options. No farm income. No tax on a child's investments. No virtual currency investments or transactions.

The Pierce County Asset Building Coalition is a cooperative that is bringing free tax assistance programs to Pierce County residents. Agencies in the coalition are AARP, Associated Ministries, Pierce County Library, Tacoma Housing Authority, 2-1-1 and more.
