Summer Academy offered at Atlantic Street Center's Youth and Family Center

For five to six weeks, Atlantic Street Center offers a curriculum consisting of reading, writing, math, and cultural enrichment activities for children entering grades 4th through 8th. Students who attend Summer Academy receive: -Free breakfast and lunch -Lessons, including STEAM-related courses, taught by Certified Teachers in a small classroom setting -Opportunities to learn activities such as theater, painting, dance, and how to start a business -Field trips to places like MoPOP, iFly, the Museum of Flight, and Equine Escapes to go horseback riding -Extra coursework help from hired tutors -A moving-on ceremony and celebration The Kinship Care Support Group is part of the Atlantic Street Center Youth Development & Education Support Program.

Eligibility

Enrollment is based on calendar school year. Summer Academy ends in mid-August and will not open for enrollment again until the following spring. All participants must be Seattle Public School students in 4th to 8th grade. We occasionally are able to make accommodation/space for those already in high school. Students must come from high-need families.

Atlantic Street Center’s mission is to support families and communities with raising healthy, successful children and youth through direct services and advocacy for social justice and equity. We achieve our mission by providing educational, family support, and behavioral health counseling services for children, youth, and their families. We primarily serve no- and low-income African American families and other families of color who reside in the Greater Seattle area, primarily South King County and North Pierce County.
