Workforce Education offered at Green River College
Provides financial help for those looking for career training and need financial assistance. Basic Food Employment & Training (BFET) Program assists recipients of federal Basic Food Assistance by providing funding for vocational education programs, GED, high school completion, or English as a Second Language classes to increase their opportunities for employment. May receive funding for tuition, fees and textbooks. DSHS approval needed before funding can be awarded. WorkFirst Assists recipients of Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) cash assistance from DSHS who need training in order to enter the workforce. WorkFirst funding typically covers tuition, required books and fees for the career training programs that are one year in length or shorter, as well as GED or High School completion. Worker Retraining Provides funding for laid-off and dislocated workers as well as vulnerable workers who need training in order to return to the workforce. Vulnerable workers are employed in an occupation that is not in demand, do not have a previous degree or certificate or need to learn new skills in order to keep their job. Training options include career training programs (certificates and AAS degrees), GED, high school completion, and English as a Second Language classes. Opportunity Grant Provides education grants for low-income students who have not yet earned a degree and are studying an eligible program. Enroll in an approved pathway of study: Aviation, business, education, healthcare, natural resources or welding. Household income must be below 200 percent of the Federal Poverty Level. Provides up to 45 credits of tuition and $1000 per academic year for books.
