Early Head Start / Head Start offered at Kitsap Community Resources

KCR provides free preschool programs for children (ages 0-5) from income-eligible families and for children with special needs. These programs provide a wide array of services for children and families, including safe and affordable child care at many locations. Health, nutrition and dental assistance is provided along with education and developmental screenings for children.   Program Hours: We offer full-day options with extended day childcare and part-day options without childcare. Hours vary by center.  Benefits: Early Head Start and Head Start provides children with activities to build school readiness skills.  The programs set the foundation for future academic success in literacy, math, the arts, science and social interactions. The Early Head Start and Head Start staff recognize that parents are the first and most important teachers of their children.  Programs are locally designed serving children with special needs and values diversity   Programs are comprehensive: Education: Children learn the skills and concepts they need to succeed in school. Health: Children gain access to medical, dental, mental and nutritional health services. Parent Involvement: Parents are involved in their children’s education.  Social Services: Families are linked to community services and resources  KCR Early Head Start and Head Start centers are located in: Bremerton and Poulsbo and Home Visitation is offered County wide. Programs: Part-day: 3.5 hours 4 days a week September through May Extended Day: 6 hours 4 days a week September through July Full-Working Day: 10 hours 5 days a week, year round. Home Visitation: 90 minute visits once a week year round including monthly group socializations

Eligibility

Serve children ages 0-5 years of age. Eligibility requirements include, low-income, families receiving public assistance (including SNAP and TANF), families experiencing homelessness, children in foster care, or children with special needs.

Fee

Prenatal, home based, and partial day, and extended day programs are free to participants.  Full day programs may require private payments or child care subsidies for services outside Head Start funded hours.
