Health Advocates offered at Salishan Community Health Advocates
Provide activities and events that promote healthy food, gardening, active living and building community within the Salishan neighborhood. Teaches people things they can do to keep their family healthy in ways that make sense culturally. Helps people understand how to prevent or manage chronic diseases such as diabetes and high blood pressure. Helps neighbors understand instructions from their doctors and on their prescriptions. Connects residents with resources and assists with applying for services. Advocates are people who live in the Salishan community and who are trained in various topics related to chronic disease prevention and management. They use their talents, knowledge and skills to improve their own health and to model new healthy behaviors for their friends and families. Advocates come from many languages and cultures including: Spanish, Cambodian, Lao, Vietnamese, Thai, Russian and more.
