The municipal court is a court of limited jurisdiction.   The municipal court judge is authorized by Washington state statute to preside over the following types of cases:   -  Non-traffic infractions -  Traffic infractions -  Criminal misdemeanors   -  Gross misdemeanors - Domestic Violence Moral Reconation Therapy The court schedules arraignments, pre-trial hearings, non-jury and jury trials, sentencing, reviews, etc.   The court supervises related services including legal representation for indigent persons, probation and interpreter services.

Call for information.   To apply for a Public Defender, fill out an application online.

Fee

Payment for infractions may be made with cash, check, credit card or money order. Fines must be paid within 15 days of issuance to avoid a hearing.   Failure to respond to the court within the 15 days or failure to appear at the hearing on the date set by the court may result in additional sanctions. If this occurs, your fine amount could double.   In general, misdemeanors are punishable by up to 90 days in jail and a fine up to $1,000. Gross misdemeanors require up to a year in jail; a fine for a gross misdemeanor cannot exceed $5,000.  A fee of $110 could be added to representation by the public defender.
