Responds to incidents that pollute and damage land, air, and water. Measures and analyzes environmental conditions. Toxics monitoring program collects environmental samples to assess toxic chemicals in soil, fish tissue, and the water column. These include - Spilled oil or other hazardous material - Smoke caused by non-permitted burning - Illegal dumping - Illegal water use - Polluted, oily, or murky water (high turbidity)

State recycling hotline and website promote recycling as an alternative to solid waste disposal. Provides referrals to the nearest recycler in the community. Specific recycling and hazardous substance information on many items, including: glass, newspaper, beer bottles, aluminum, cardboard, scrap paper, magazines, plastic, household hazardous waste, used oil, used appliances, scrap metals, toxins, paint, yard waste, tires, phone books, electronics and unwanted medications.
