Foster Care Assessment Program offered at Harborview Abuse & Trauma Center in Seattle
Provides assessments of a foster child's level of functioning in the home, school and community, and assists with service planning and implementation. Provides consultation for child welfare cases where a full assessment may not be necessary. The goals of the program are to improve the child's health and well-being, and help the Division of Children and Family Services accomplish permanency. Also accepts referrals for reunification assessments. Coordinates similar programs across Washington state.

Application process
Referrals must be made by a Department of Children and Family Services social worker. Other community members, such as therapists, foster parents and teachers, can encourage social workers to refer.

Eligibility
Children who are state dependent and in out-of-home care for more than 90 days. Children and youth served by the program under the standard assessment have health, developmental and/or behavioral issues that present special challenges to permanency planning. Cases referred for the reunification assessment present specific challenges regarding the feasibility of reunification.

Provides medical care, psychosocial evaluations and counseling for victims of sexual assault and trauma. Also offers treatment for families focused on reducing child behavioral problems. Contracts with the state to provide the Foster Care Assessment Program, which provides comprehensive assessments of a foster child's level of functioning in the home, school, and community and assists with service planning and implementation.
